Venezuela recognizes the democratic will of the Guyanese people and congratulates the new Government of Guyana
The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, on behalf of the Venezuelan people ang Government, congratulates de people of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana after having successfully concluded the electoral process that, after an extended period of vote recounting, allowed to know the final results of the regional and general elections held on March 2nd, in which Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali was elected President.
Venezuela recognizes the democratic will of the Guyanese people and extends its congratulations to the People’s Civic Progressive Party (PPP/C) for the victory achieved, while wishing the best of success and performance to the new government.
The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela looks forward to resuming the ties of cooperation and good neighborliness that have characterized the comprehensive bilateral relationship with Guyana until 2015, always in pursuit of the shared development of both peoples.
Lastly, regarding to the historic territorial dispute over Guyana Esequiba, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterates to the new Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana the need to reactivate as soon as possible the mechanisms of dialogue and negotiation to reach a practical and satisfactory settlement, always within the framework of the Geneva Agreement of 1966, an international legal instrument that is fully in force for both Parties.
