Venezuela expresses its sorrow to the people and Government of Nicaragua on the death of Minister Paul Oquist Kelley

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, on behalf of the people and Government of Venezuela, expresses his condolences to the people and Government of Nicaragua on the death of his brother and comrade, Paul Oquist Kelley, Minister Private Secretary for Public Policy.

An American academic who became a Nicaraguan citizen, Paul was a being of extraordinary intelligence, sagacity, visionary and brave. He was always characterized by his never-ending energy, joy and capacity of service to disseminate and defend internationally and in any scenario the truth of the Sandinista people. Our Eternal Commander, Hugo Chávez Frías, affectionately nicknamed him as the “Good Gringo”, always recognized him as one of the essential ones.

It was precisely this unwavering loyalty to the Sandinista cause, that earned him the hatred of those sectors that have always despised life. Those alleged sanctions imposed on him are the best recognition of the integrity, dignity and purity of his faithful service to the people.

We salute the libertarian commitment of the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of Nicaragua, Daniel and Rosario, for their commitment to the construction of the Great Latin American Homeland, which united Bolivar and Sandino in the common struggle for the welfare and sovereignty of our peoples.
