Venezuela demands compliance with the Vienna Convention in view of acts of violence against its diplomatic mission in Lima

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela denounces the acts of violence against the integrity of the Diplomatic and Consular Mission of Venezuela in Lima, Republic of Peru, on February 20th, 2021, in view of the contemplative attitude and lack of action by security forces, in total disregard of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic and Consular Relations.

In this regard, the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela demands that the Peruvian authorities guarantee the integrity of Venezuelan Diplomatic and Consular personnel, as well as the security of their headquarters and facilities. Likewise, it recalls the necessary adherence and compliance with the international commitments acquired by the Peruvian State towards migrant populations and urges total respect to the integrity of Venezuelan citizens living in that country.

Likewise, we condemn the cruel murder of the young Peruvian man, Silvano Oblitas Cántaro, which occurred in Colombia. We hope that the Colombian authorities will carry out a rigorous investigation into the circumstances that led to this unfortunate crime and thode responsible will be brought to justice in that country, regardless of their origin or nationality.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterates its rejections of the unacceptable campaigns of discrimination and xenophobia against the Venezuelan community in Peru, demands an end to them and rejects the dissemination of anti-Venezuelan messages for electoral gain by some political sectors in that country.
