Venezuela will produce vaccines against COVID-19 in alliance with Cuba

The Executive Vice-president of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, made a visit this Thursday to the Espromed Bio Plant, located in Ciudad Universitaria to supervise the operational areas and technological capacity of this company to start the production of vaccines against COVID-19, a project that will be developed in cooperation with Cuba.

“Today we have visited this plant to verify all the conditions that are given for the production of the vaccine against COVID-19 ABDALA in Venezuela, we have also reviewed with the People’s Power Ministry for Health, everything regarding Venezuela’s participation in the phase III trials of this vaccine, which will be given in the coming weeks”, Rodríguez explained.

She stressed that while the world is immersed in a process of inequality in terms of the distribution and acquisition of the vaccine against this virus, “here is Cuba setting the example, the medical power Cuba, the technological power Cuba, already with five vaccine candidates.” He said.

Espromed Bio has two plants, the first of these for the production of biologicals and the other for pharmaceutical specialties such as tablets.

It currently has more than 300 highly trained and outstanding professionals in each area, who have the responsibility of verifying that each drug meets the quality required by national and international standards, to be placed on the market for the consumption of the people without any risk.

In addition, it manages a portfolio of diverse products, including human erythropoietin, a molecule used to produce drugs for different pathologies such as kidney diseases, cancer patients; as well as they also produce epidermal that is used for the diabetic foot, the latter is carried out in agreement with the sister Republic of Cuba. In total, there are 5 projects developed in this plant in cooperation with biotechnology companies from the Greater Antilles.

They also produce other biologics such as influenza vaccines and insulins thanks to the strategic alliance with the Russian Federation, a cooperation project that has been running for more than two years and has allowed the market to be supplied with insulin in its different presentations.

In addition to the Espromed Bio authorities, she was also accompanied by the Cuban Ambassador accredited to Venezuela, Dagoberto Rodríguez; the People’s Power Minister for Health, Dr. Carlos Alvarado and the Minister for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez.
