In order to review the cooperation agenda between the Venezuelan State and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Venezuelan Vice-minister for Multilateral Affairs Daniela Rodríguez held a meeting on Tuesday with the UNHCR representative Enrique Vallés-Ramos.
At the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, they discussed and exchanged information of common interest. Likewise, the Venezuelan diplomat expressed concern over news and information published by the UNHCR on Venezuela that feed the perception of an alleged “humanitarian crisis.”
In this regard, Rodríguez stressed the need of providing non-biased reports on her country’s situation and working together on multilateral cooperation for the benefit of the most vulnerable population.
UNHCR: 30 years in Venezuela
Historically, Venezuela has been a receiving country for migrants from all around the world, giving them a cordial, warm welcome and guaranteeing them the same rights and benefits enjoyed by Venezuelans.
The UNHCR opened an office in Venezuela 30 years ago to work with the Venezuelan State for the benefit of migrant populations and displaced people, mainly from Colombia.
Currently, the UNHCR is working in 74 prioritized communities throughout Venezuela and relies on 350 community promoters, committees and networks comprised by young people and women.
